What is auto scheduling?
When auto scheduling is switched on, the Gantt will automatically re-schedule the start and end dates of the selected dependent tasks or milestones.
Auto schedule specific tasks and milestones
To the right of the task or milestone, click on the dropdown arrow next to Edit. Select Auto Schedule. The item will now be set to auto schedule and will display the following icon to the left
Repeat as needed until the required group of tasks and milestones are all set to auto schedule.
Top Tip
- All dependent tasks or milestones in the group will need to have auto schedule enabled for the rescheduling to work.
Auto schedule the entire plan
To set up auto-scheduling for the entire plan, you must be in Scheduling mode. See Scheduling Explained for more information.
Click on Scheduling in the top bar next to Add Task, then Actions and Auto Schedule.
- On - When this feature is switched on, the start date of the second task will update according to the end date of the first task.
- On (Strict) - When this feature is switched on, tasks will always be rescheduled to the earliest possible date and any slack will be removed.
Note: Auto-scheduling can be switched off via the same route above as needed.
Refresh
When switching on auto-scheduling use the Refresh option to update your Gantt with the new rule.
Identifying manually scheduled tasks and milestones
If you have auto scheduled specific tasks and milestones prior to turning auto scheduling on for the entire plan, these items will be identified by a pin symbol located to the left of the task and milestone -
To now include these items within the auto scheduling of the entire plan, you will need to click on the dropdown arrow next to Edit and select Auto Schedule for each record.
Top Tip
- You must be in scheduling mode in order to switch on auto scheduling. When you have finished making any changes you must click Save at the bottom of the Gantt for any changes to be saved.
- Any changes made to the auto scheduling are project specific and will impact all project members.
